Feb 11, 2026 General Meeting MINUTES

Call to Order, Acceptance of last month minutes, agenda accepted

Financials: $1850 raised in store Dec/Jan $350 in membership fees

Suggestion for Members to recruit friends to join

Shelving units ordered should arrive in days. Workbench outboard stand built

Motion to set official Grand Opening ceremony date for April 10th moved, approved
Bob Motion making promotional posters, Phil Short nominated to ask about Credit Union BBQ availability. Looking into more Shed aprons

Calendar passed around to sign up to man the shop M-W-F 1-5pm.

Mike Bird: motion moved, seconded
– That the members of the Stuart Lake Men’s Shed Society regretfully accept the resignation of Mike Bird as a Member and­ wish to thank him for his past dedication and work in helping the formation and set up of this Society. UNANIMOUS

– Directors motion to remove his name from banking and legal documents ACCEPTED

General Discussion: OPEN sign, doorbell fix, retain donated MF printer for our use, one size aprons rather than Tshirts, cards for parking in handicap zone available

Shed Shop

As some of us discussed, I added a sample site for people to view.
We were discussing how the shop is getting crowded, we have many things too big or unfit to be put inside and how some sort of online site could help us feature those and other items to make room.

So instead of posting things one by one on Facebook Marketplace where not only will the listing get quickly pushed out of view and it lists under the postee’s name, we can use this alternative. I or anyone else can just post the link on Facebook and people will see a better list.

It’s a scrollable list of items. Eventually it can be used directly from the computer that will be in the shop, just take a picture of the item and add the item thru the interface. For the interim, you caq take a picture of an item in the sea can, or where its stored with a description and send it to me (Rick) and I will post it.

Jan Minutes

A well attended meeting 18 members:

1- Minutes of previous meeting attended accepted.
We will stick to traditional recording of meets as the electronic recording too difficult to hear and mostly irrelevant disussion
2 – Financials the interim report passed out, no issues
Tyler and Bob working to do year and for next meet and AGM
Looking into paying regular monthly bills (rent etc) by autodebit
3- AGM will be Weds. Apr 8 at 2:00 pm
4- Official Public Hours of Operation for storefront for now
Mon – Wed – Fri from 1 to 5 pm. Volunteer staff needed
Public will be able to come in and look around when members are in
5- Signage: lights for store sign being installed now, signs indicating sponsors being arranged for posting in windows for Grand Opening
6- Car Show will be Aug 8th, any members interested in volunteering to assist with the Car Show please contact Tyler.

Regional District Grant

The Men’s Shed has been approved for a $2000.00 grant in aid by the Regional District RDBN. We thank you for your generosity.
Formal public recognition of all donations to be made at our Open House ceremony.

FPX Nickel donates $2500

We have just been granted a $2500 donation by FPX Nickel, the Fort St James Nickel Corp (Baptiste Project) to the Society. We thank them for their generosity.
We will be listing a display of all donors at our Grand Opening (TBA) to officially thank all our sponsors.

Bus trip to Men’s Sheds

A bus trip for our members has been arranged to visit the Men’s Sheds in Vanderhoof and Fraser Lake for the morning of Tuesday Nov. 18.
The bus has been provided ny the Seniors and gas will be covered by the Stuart Lake Men’s Shed. It will be an all day excursion but there are only 14 seats available. Contact Bill Howell (see the list in the Members Only area) to reserve a spot, first come first serve.

MINUTES OF SLMSS NOVEMBER 5
meeting commenced at 2:00 pm

– Minutes of last meeting accepted
– Financial report read and accepted
– Mention of meeting conduct made

– Chequing account: motion to make sure a chequing account ia in place and purchase cheques to use
Motion Tyler 2nd Rick – motion passed

– Reefer van is in place at Tyler’s shop pending District approval to go behind the shop

– Grand Opening date reset to Feb 19, 2026 to ensure shop setup is complete
Motion Bob M 2nd Bill – motion passed

– Next Garage Sale tentative May 30 pending Credit Union BBQ available
– Room dividers: one will be ordered to look at for suitability before ordering more
– Shelving and soundproofing discussion only
– Kitchen reno: tabled pending completion of main setup

– Bus trip to Men’s Sheds: A trip to visit Vanderhoof and Fraser Lake Men’s Sheds for members was set for Friday Nov 14**. Seniors letting us use their 14 passenger bus.

** date revised by conflict with FSJ Craft Fair to Tues Nov 18

– Wall for “retail” area. A wall to be built to separate the front of the shop from the working area so that only the most presentable of goods will be seen by the public through the windows. Having achieved the first part of our fundraising goal, funds are available to build a proper wall and entrance and allow donors to see what their donations went to.
